Mitchell R. Julis '77  is Co-Founder, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Partners, LLC., a leading global alternative asset management firm that specializes in credit-oriented (as well as real estate and emerging market debt securities) investments. Prior to forming Canyon, Mr. Julis directed a group of professionals responsible for a portfolio of distressed and special situation securities at Drexel Burnham Lambert. Prior to working at Drexel, he was a bankruptcy and creditors’ rights attorney at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York. His writings on bankruptcy and distressed credit investing have been published in law journals and other periodicals.

In 2014, Mr. Julis, along with co-founder Mr. Friedman, received Institutional Investor’s “Lifetime Achievement” Award. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Princeton University and the Advisory Council for the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He is a member of the Governing Board for The Institute for New Economic Thinking, the Asia Society Board of Trustees, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute Advisory Council, and is a founding supporter of the Program on Jewish and Israeli Law at Harvard Law School.

Mr. Julis is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University (B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa), Harvard Law School (J.D., magna cum laude) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., honors). He received an honorary doctorate from Yeshiva University of New York in 2011.
