N.B. The total cost of the semester at UCT is subject to fluctuations in the currency exchange.

These estimates do not include funds required for personal travel outside of Cape Town and for major purchases. Each student's needs will vary according to his or her lifestyle and spending habits.

A fee of $100 will be applied to all cancellations received after a student indicates acceptance but prior to arrival. A fee of $2550 will be applied to all cancellations or withdrawals received after arrival or registration at UCT. There will be no refunds for any cancellation or withdrawal received after March 31 for Semester 1 intakes and after August 31 for Semester 2 intakes. Should a student cancel his/her accommodation after it has been confirmed (even if prior to arrival) s/he will be billed $400.

Travel:

Students will be responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Cape Town. Round trip airfare from New York is usually $2,300-2,700. 

Passport:

Students are responsible for ensuring that their passports are valid for their entire stay in South Africa. U.S. passport fees are $110 (application fee) plus a $25 execution fee. Fees are $110 to renew your passport. For further information on renewing or obtaining a passport, please consult the U.S. Department of State passport website.

Study Permit:

The cost of a study permit is $72, plus $16 mailing fee payable by certified check or money order to the South African Consulate General.

Insurance:

All students are required to carry health insurance that is valid overseas. Student health insurance that is valid overseas may be purchased through Princeton University for $925 per semester. Students who are covered by other insurance plans must verify that they will be covered while studying abroad and that the coverage is equivalent to the Princeton plan.
