Graduate Alum Profile
HERRO MUSTAFA
MPA '97
Senior Advisor, Office of the Vice President, Washington, D.C.

"The most important thing I've taken from my time at the Woodrow Wilson School is the practical application of the curriculum to real-world issues. I learned about leadership, conflict resolution, national security, and international development theory. I also focused heavily on case studies and lessons learned. This course of study and experience has provided me with a solid foundation from which to serve as a Foreign Service Officer.
"The Woodrow Wilson School has provided me with the tools needed to work in the realm of public policy and national security by teaching me leadership skills, conflict management, and coalition building. My interaction with outstanding faculty and fellow students remain a particularly important part of my experience. I am honored to be an alumna and to have access to a valuable network of Princeton alumni.
"It is amazing to see, everywhere you go, Woodrow Wilson School alumni. In Mosul, Iraq with the Coalition Provisional Authority, I worked closely with then-Maj. General Dave Petraeus M.P.A. '85, Ph.D. '87. We worked together to rebuild one of the most complicated provinces in that country. Col. Mike Meese M.P.A. '90, M.A. '91, Ph.D. '00 was in Mosul before I arrived. After Iraq, working in the National Security Council, it was incredible how many alumni I had the opportunity to meet and work with: Greg Schulte M.P.A. '83, Nick Rasmussen M.P.A. '90, Frank Miller M.P.A. '77, and Damon Wilson M.P.A. '98."
