LEONARD LANCE

MPA '82

Senator (R), New Jersey Legislative District 23
Senate Minority Leader, Trenton, N. J.

Leonard Lance

Congressman Leonard Lance was elected to the United States House of Representatives in November 2008 to represent New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.

Previously Lance served as the Republican Minority Leader in the N.J. State Senate. Lance credits WWS in helping shape what has been a long and accomplished career in public service. "The School occupies a position of great importance, not only here in the state but throughout the world. I've always considered it the best program in public policy anywhere in the U.S. The classes are small and students receive individual attention, and I believe the professors are the best anywhere.

"It was my privilege to be a student at WWS. I think this is an example of Princeton in service to the nation and beyond--really in service to all of humankind. I particularly enjoy being able to work with the School today, encouraging students to run for elected office either locally, at the state level, or nationally."

Lance previously served in the General Assembly as the Appropriations Committee chair, and Budget Committee vice-chair. As assembly sponsor, he played an integral role in the decade-long effort to establish the Garden State Preservation Trust.
