J. ALEXANDER BOSTON

MPA/JD '93

Country Director, Peace Corps
Amman, Jordan

J. Alexander Boston

Alex Boston was attracted to the M.P.A. program at WWS because it offered rigorous academics along with opportunities for practical skill development and professional networking. Currently a country director with the Peace Corps working in Amman, Jordan, Alex chose to pursue a joint M.P.A./J.D. degree, combining public policy and law as an effective way to address issues related to social justices at both the domestic and international levels.

"I chose WWS because of its well-respected reputation and the relatively small and intimate size of the School and classes. My studies helped with my career by giving me a more complete array of tools and methodologies to deal with various social issues, complementing the legal profession's relatively rigid way of addressing social issues. While I focused on domestic policy in my studies, I have been able to apply what I learned at WWS both in foreign service and city government settings.

"I particularly enjoyed the internships in which I was placed--I worked with a variety of agencies in New Jersey and New York City. The School's Office of Graduate Career Services highlighted the range of career opportunities available to WWS graduates, giving me a clear sense of the possibilities that existed. For that reason, I have worked in both international and domestic government and nongovernmental agencies. I feel that the skills I gained at WWS have been applicable to all settings and I have enjoyed the cross-fertilization that has occurred throughout my career."
