His primary interests are in electoral politics, public opinion, and the mass media. His first book, Presidential Primaries and the Dynamics of Public Choice, won the American Political Science Association’s Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the year’s best book on government, politics, or international affairs. He is also the author of Voting Behavior: Essays and Reflections (upcoming, 2001) and coeditor (with Lynn Vavreck) of Campaign Reform: Insights and Evidence. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the founding director of Princeton’s Center for the Study of Democratic Politics. He has served as president of the Methodology Section of the American Political Science Association and chair of the Board of Overseers of the American National Election Study, and has held fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the Social Science Research Council. Ph.D. University of California, Berkeley.
