A week after graduating from the Wilson School, Angela Groves has been named as one of seven new members to Princeton University’s 40-member Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for the overall direction of the University. It approves the operating and capital budgets, supervises the investment of the University's endowment, and oversees campus real estate and long-range physical planning. The trustees also exercise review and oversight of changes in major policies, such as those involving admission and financial aid. Groves was elected by the junior, senior and two youngest alumni classes to serve four years as young alumni trustee.

Groves, of Cleveland, was awarded the Harold Willis Dodds Prize at Princeton University Class Day celebrations.   The award recognizes the senior who best embodies the qualities of Princeton's 15th president, Harold Dodds, “particularly in the qualities of clear thinking, moral courage, a patient and judicious regard for the opinions of others, and a thoroughgoing devotion to the welfare of the University and to the life of the mind.”

Groves was a residential college adviser in Mathey College. She led freshmen through the community action pre-orientation program and the leadership and mentoring program. She served as a student member of the University's Eating Club Task Force and Working Group on Campus Social and Residential Life. In addition to her role as secretary for the Class of 2012, Groves was a member of the Princeton Association of Black Women, the Black Student Union and the campus chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She also has been involved in the local community as a tutor for the GetSET Afterschool Program in Trenton and as a tutor/mentor for elementary school children at the First Baptist Church in Princeton.

Groves will teach high school math in Atlanta next year through Teach for America, and hopes to become a civil rights lawyer.
