Jackson is the 55th mayor of Trenton since it was founded as a city in 1792. He was elected on June 10, 2014, and was sworn in on July 1 on the steps of City Hall in front of an audience of city residents and leaders from business, education, faith and government. An accomplished executive, community leader and devoted public servant, Mayor Jackson believes that nurturing a culture of excellence, customer service, coalition building,communications and productivity is the key to organizational performance, particularly in government.

From September 2011 to June 2014, Mayor Jackson was director of public works and urban redevelopment for the city of Plainfield in Union County, N.J. He oversaw its engineering, planning, economic development, city yard and recreation divisions.

For 17 years, beginning in 1994, Mayor Jackson rose to director of public works from several roles, including supervising program analyst to director of economic opportunity and affirmative action officer. From 1987 to 1994, as director of operations and personnel for the community health care nonprofit, Henry J. Austin Center, Mayor Jackson helped establish two satellite offices that greatly expanded the centerʹs service delivery capabilities to families in the Trenton area.

Mayor Jackson developed his managerial, budgetary and community leadership skills at Citibank and on numerous boards, including as president of the board of trustees of the Trenton Free Public Library, the New Jersey Water Works Association, the Public Works Association of Central New Jersey and the New Jersey Association on Corrections.
