Michael Hannan is Stratacom Professor of Management in the Graduate School of Business and Professor of Sociology in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University.  Professor Hannan’s work in organizational and economic sociology has traversed disciplinary boundaries to incorporate ideas and models from fields as diverse as population biology, human ecology, demography, and formal logic to create a most powerful and influential theoretical perspective on organizational change.  Professor Hannan has been a fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the J. Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  His books include, among others, Social Dynamics: Models and Methods (with Nancy Tuma, 1984), Organizational Ecology (with John Freeman, 1989), Dynamics of Organizational Populations (with Glenn Carroll, 1992), The Demography of Corporations and Industries (with Glenn Carroll 2000), and Logics of Organization Theory: Audiences, Codes, and Ecologies (with Laszló Pólos and Glenn Carroll 2007).
