Financial Market Regulation Series: "Defining the 'New Normal' in Executive Compensation," November 8

Yvonne Chen, Managing Director at the compensation consulting firm Pearl Meyer & Partners, LLC, and Robert Jackson, Jr., an Associate Professor of Law at Columbia Law School and former deputy to the Special Master for TARP Executive Compensation, will participate in a discussion titled "Defining the 'New Normal' in Executive Compensation" at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 8, in Bowl 016, Robertson Hall. They will be joined by former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Visiting Professor at the Woodrow Wilson School. The discussion is the fourth in the School's Financial Market Regulation series.

Yvonne Chen joined the firm’s New York office in 1998. With more than 25 years of business experience, Chen consults with companies, subsidiaries and joint ventures in the development of compensation objectives, value-based performance measurement and incentive plan design. She has worked extensively with clients in the asset management, real estate, telecommunications, non-regulated energy and manufacturing sectors. Chen previously was a Principal in the executive compensation practice group of William M. Mercer, Incorporated and held positions at SCA Consulting, KeySpan Corporation and Aetna Life & Casualty Corporation.

Robert Jackson, Jr. is Associate Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, where his research projects emphasize the empirical study of corporate governance. Jackson previously served as an advisor on executive compensation and corporate governance to senior officials at the department of the Treasury and as Deputy Special Master for TARP Executive Compensation. Prior to joining the Treasury, he practiced in the Executive Compensation Department at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Jackson previously worked in investment banking and as a consultant to financial institutions. He also served as a Law Clerk to the Hon. Amalya L. Kearse on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and as Articles Co-Chair of the Harvard Law Review.

The Financial Market Regulation series is one of five new thematic lecture series that includes Race and Public Policy; Intractable Conflicts; Implementing Healthcare Reform (co-sponsored with the School’s Center for Health and Wellbeing); and Changing Notions of State, Sovereignty, and Self-Determination (co-sponsored with The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination as part of their 10th anniversary). Each series will feature four to six lectures and/or panel discussions that will convene noted scholars, diplomats, think tank, public policy and government officials to discuss pressing policy issues.
