Master in Public Affairs (M.P.A.)

The Community

The close-knit relationships of students, administrators, alumni, and faculty are rarely matched by other professional degree programs. The trade-offs are obvious: Princeton is a campus and a town, not a city. New York and Philadelphia each are an hour away by train. Washington, D.C. is a two-and-a-half hour train ride. What permeates the School's community are the core values and commitment among its constituencies to public service and the pursuit of skills, knowledge, and relationships that cultivates a lifelong passion for leadership, activism, and seeking solutions to the systemic problems of society. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the School while classes are in session, and information sessions are scheduled twice a week during the fall semester to welcome visitors and answer questions. The quality of life at Princeton is remarkable in relation to its peer institutions because the small size maximizes the opportunity to get to know classmates, faculty, and administrators. At the same time, the wealth of other opportunities available through public lectures, community service, intramural sports, and innumerable impromptu events can make the experience at WWS among the best of life's sabbaticals.
