China and the World Program to host talk by Donglin Han, Oct. 21
The Woodrow Wilson School's China and the World Program will host a public lecture with Donglin Han, a China and the World Fellow at Harvard University, titled, "International Return Migration and its Political Impact in China: Contexts, Dynamics and Comparisons" at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Bowl 001, Robertson Hall on the Princeton University campus.
Donglin Han will explore the political impact of international return migration in China in the last century. China is, without exception, under the increased impact of people's movements across borders: its past has significantly been shaped by return migration. Return migrants intensively participate in China's domestic political development, both in political institutions and culture. This talk will compare the different waves of return migration and its political impact on Chinese politics to construct an explanation of the political impact over years.
Donglin Han received his PhD in Social Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2009. His dissertation explores the political impact of international return migration on domestic politics in China. While a fellow in the China and the World program this year, he will commence a new project on the attentive public and foreign policy making in China. He has published articles in Asian Survey, Science, Technology and Society, and the China Quarterly (forthcoming). He holds a B.A. with first class honors from City University of Hong Kong, an MPhil. in Social Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
This event is sponsored by the China and the World Program of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. It is free and open to the public.
