Enabled Voicemail Service

In May 2007, OIT announced that Enabled Voice Mail (EVM) would be available to all Faculty and Staff.  EVM is an add-on service which converts your voice mail messages into audio files and sends them to your Inbox as e-mail attachments.  You can then listen to the messages, delete them, forward them, and archive them as you would with any e-mail message.  Listening to an EVM message is easy.  When you receive an EVM e-mail message, simply click the attachment and the message will play through your computer's media player.

The benefits of using EVM include:

  • You no longer need to call the voice mail system to listen to voice mail -- the message comes to you via e-mail, and you can listen to it directly from your computer!

  • Easy access to phone messages when working remotely -- this service is especially useful for folks who may not be working at their desks and who can't see the "message" light on their phones.  Instead, you will receive notification to your computer (or PDA/Cell phone) that you've received a phone message -- so you're never out of touch.

  • The ability to share voice mail messages -- if the voice mail you've received isn't for you go ahead and forward it via e-mail to a colleague who can just open it him/herself and listen; you can then delete from your e-mail and voicemail.

  • The ability to receive notice of new messages on your PDA and/or cell phone  -- you only receive the NOTICE on your PDA/blackberry/cell phone -- you then need to call in to voicemail for the message, or listen to it via your computer.

  • Detailed call/caller information provided as text in the email -- the e-mail will include the phone number of the person who called -- and in the case of a Princeton employee, it will include the name of the caller as well.

  • Simple management of voice mail messages from your computer.

Anyone who would like to have EVM activated shoul send an e-mail to OITEVM.  In the body of the e-mail message, indicate that you would like EVM added to your voice mail service.
